Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Holy Comforter started small -- knitted or crocheted shawls were made, blessed, and given to parishioners who were ill or hospitalized. Over time it has expanded in scope and our talented crafters have made baby blankets, hats, scarves, and other items for those in need. Meeting every Thursday morning, the group finds joy in sitting together to knit or crochet, talking about their projects and what's happening in the parish, and often praying for the people to whom their projects are given. It's very true that for every stitch, a prayer has gone up. That makes their creations valuable, and intensely meaningful to all those who receive their gifts.

The group sponsors an annual sale, usually in late Fall, when the excess products they have crafted are displayed and usually eagerly purchased by church members and the general public who are invited in to see their displayed wares. The money generated by the sale goes right back into their ministry in the form of new yarn to turn into future projects - so much that extra storage has had to be arranged for their stockpile. This year they also did a special sale just before Mother's Day for the EDS students, which was a big hit. There is no formal membership -- anyone who enjoys knitting or crochet, regardless of age or gender, is welcome to join them in the Library on Thursday mornings. These talented church members (and a few guests as well) continually bless us and our community with the works of their hands, and they would welcome you to be a part of their ministry.
