Daughters of the King (DoK)

Prayer, Service, and Evangelism

The Order of the Daughters of the King was founded in 1885, to provide women in the Episcopal Church a channel for serving God and spreading the Kingdom of Christ. Daughters adopt a rule of life that helps to focus their journey with Christ; their vows include a Rule of Prayer and a Rule of Service. Daughters vow to pray daily for unity in Christ's church, the spread of Christ's Kingdom, and for God's blessings on members of our chapters and our clergy. They exercise their Rule of Service by seeking to do the will of God every day, participating in worship services, and supporting the clergy in outreach missions of the church. To show their devotion, all Daughters wear the silver cross of the Order daily to remind them of their vows and that they cannot live one day without Christ. The inscription on their cross is Magnanimiter Crucem Sustine, which means "With heart, mind and spirit uphold and bear the cross." This is their beautiful motto:

For His Sake...
I am but one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the Grace of God, I will do.
Lord, what will you have me do?

Any woman who is interested in joining the Daughters of the King can get more information from Chapter President, Sarah Pilkanis, or from any of the current Daughters. Our DoK chapter here at Holy Comforter meets regularly throughout the year and participates in various projects such as welcoming visitors and new members. They support all outreach ministries of the church, and would be happy to have you join them in the life of prayer and service.
