Brotherhood of St. Andrew

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is a longstanding Episcopal men’s ministry, founded in 1883 in Chicago, with a focus on prayer, Bible study, and service. Its mission is simple but meaningful: to bring men and youth into a closer relationship with Christ. Our Holy Comforter chapter has been active for many years and includes not only men from our parish but also friends from other local churches. Over time, the Brotherhood has played an important role in shaping some of our most effective and rewarding ministries. The group meets every other Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. for a relaxed, bring-your-own-breakfast gathering that includes conversation, study, and prayer. Service is at the heart of what the Brotherhood does. The men have led initiatives such as the Beans and Rice Ministry, which provided groceries to families in need (currently on pause), and they continue to support the Brown Bag Ministry. On the fourth Friday of each month, they prepare and pack lunches for Way of the Cross Ministries. Since hot meals are not offered there on Fridays, this effort helps ensure that those in need still receive a meal. One of the most enjoyed ministries connected with the Brotherhood is “Breakfast with the Boys,” held on the second Sunday of each month at 8:30 a.m. A dedicated team—including Charlie Hart, Hugh Barr Miller, Kevin Yates, Bob Powers, and Richard Bohanon, along with other volunteers—serves up a full Southern breakfast with all the favorites. Donations from this gathering help support both the meal and other outreach efforts. It’s a wonderful time for fellowship and a great way to start the day before worship.
